When is it?

The Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival (DISFMF) runs from 6th – 8th October 2017. It’s an annual event and will be held across a couple of venues, meaning it should be easy to reach from the O’Callaghan hotel Dublin.

What’s it about?

Every October, the DISFMF runs its own independent three-day festival, with the aim of bringing together filmmakers and musicians from around the world so as to both celebrate and share their short films and musical compositions. There is every imaginable genre available – drama, comedy, animation, music videos, narrative stories, documentaries and horror; and the festival was designed to help build crucial cultural bridges and enhance networking opportunities within the creative industries. The centralised location of the festival in the densely populated city of Dublin provides ample opportunity for a multicultural and diverse skillset to come together and explore one another’s great work. There is even a special award’s ceremony worked into the festival to provide recognition for top talent.

In 2016, the festival received over 850 submissions, screening over 90 short films from around the world. 2017 marks the 6th year of this new festival, and there will be 14 awards up for grabs, including the coveted Best Director, Best Script and Best Music.

Where is it?

This year, the festival will be held within two main venues. Dublin’s Cineworld will hold short film screenings, with a special awards ceremony at The Sugar Club on 8th October as a fitting finale. During the festival, a series of live music events will also take place across multiple venues: the Grand Social, The Liquer Room and the Workman’s Club. All of these venues are within easy access of the O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel from O’Callaghan Hotel Dublin.

How can I find out more?

The full programme this year has yet to be announced, but avid festival fans can find out more and follow developments by heading over to the official DISFMF website. One thing is for sure – building on previous years, this year’s festival is set to be bigger and better than ever before, with lots to see and do for everyone with an interest in great films and great music.
